The founder of Cardinal Electronics, Marty Slater, built his company on one philosophy: customer service. And the company's motto "We make a U-turn in a tunnel" to serve the dealer still holds true today, some 58 years later.

Cardinal has grown exponentially since moving to larger facilities 18 years ago, when the previous office-warehouse was completely gutted by fire. "We vowed to rebuild," president David Slater says. "Fortunately, Cardinal's long-term relationships with its suppliers was instrumental to our quick turnaround. Cardinal counts TDK among its largest suppliers, a relationship spanning over 40 years. Maxell has been a partner for 37 years, Sony for 19, Yamaha for eight, and so on, proving that our enduring philosophy of building partnerships with our suppliers, as well as our customers, is crucial to Cardinal's success."

"The New York metro market is arguably the toughest in the nation. But Cardinal has survived and thrived through 58 years because we believe that good business is truly a two-way street," comments Bill Lyons, vice president. "And that credo is reflected in the same-day service we provide our customers. It stands head and shoulders above our competition."

In recent years, Cardinal has expanded its franchised lines to 26, concentrating its efforts on the burgeoning home theater/installer categories. Key lines complementing that emphasis includeYamaha, Denon, Infinity, Zenith, Sanus, LG, BDI, Monster and Westinghouse. Cardinal recognized the rapid acceptance of the home theater concept early on and its dealers have benefited accordingly. From DLP cinema projectors to state-of-the-art audio to plasma TV's to stands and mounts, Cardinal is a "one-stop" shopping experience for dealers and installers alike. We have also added lines such as Movado and Casio to better service our premium and rewards customers.

A philosophy of "out-of-stock means out-of-sale" translates to the company's outstanding fill-rate of 98%. UPS-shippable orders are accepted up to 4pm for same-day shipment. Cardinal offers complete fulfillment/drop shipment services, including "white glove" home delivery and customized shipping labels. The company accepts orders via e-mail, EDI, fax, phone, or through its field representatives, and will shortly be expanding its e-commerce business.
